Lets take 3 languages: - english - portuguese - italian Supposing I write a period in english, my task is to translate this sentence with the best results in portuguese and italian. Now, I am a native italian speaker so what do I do? for speed sake I pass the sentence on google translate and translate it to italian, then I correct the major syntactical and semantic errors. Now I have italian and english version, but I have no idea what portuguese is like so I have to trust on the translator output, I think italian is ~ portuguese, meaning that a major % of words composition is more similar between italian and portuguese than english and portuguese, so I think that translating the italian sentence into portuguese will provide an higher success % than translating english to portuguese.
