I can't translate PDF web pages or documents in right-to-left languages (specifically, Hebrew). The problem does seem to be the text direction, since I can translate a word by copying and pasting a letter at a time.
I'm using Firefox but I see the same problem in Internet Explorer. I see the same behaviour in translating a web PDF, a saved PDF document and text copied from a PDF (although the copying shows signs of a left-to-right bias at the line wraps). It shouldn't matter but my access is through translate.google.ca. An example is http://www.sviva.gov.il/Enviroment/Static/Binaries/News/electronic_equipment_law_draft_1.pdf . The problem seems to be PDF-related. I can translate English to Hebrew then copy the Hebrew and successfully translate it back to English in the tool. I don't see this problem with translated Hebrew HTML pages.
