I think he's asking for gaps in the data to be represented by a square-wave-like drop to 0, rather than a sawtooth pattern. There is a feature in some charting libraries called "gap threshold" to control this, which is the size of the gap in which you do not connect points, and based on whether there is a gap, you can choose to render it in various ways (missing line segment, drop to zero axis, "grayed out" line, etc)
