Basically, we send press releases for our clients and we would like to
display to them on a map exactly where their releases are sent. Some
sort of heat map make sense to me. Unfortunately, it's not at all as
simple as it seems. I've come across six possible options below:

http://www.heatmapapi.com/Default.aspx
http://www.maptimize.com/
http://code.google.com/p/gheat/
http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/gallery/geomap.html
http://maker.geocommons.com/
http://blog.everyblock.com/2008/feb/18/maps/ (build your own)

I'm not really a fan of the nebulous cloudy stuff because we are very
specifically sending discrete numbers of press releases. I'm leaning
towards either color coding ZIP codes or placing varying sizes of
circles on the map. Maker and Maptimize are the most promising, but of
course they are not free (and it's not clear how well their APIs
work). If possible, I would prefer to do this with Google APIs, but it
doesn't seem easy. Apparently you cannot zoom in closer than the
entire country using the visualization API, and the maps API seems
difficult.

So, my question is have I missed anything on the Internet or are those
six links above my best options? Also, is it possible to do it solely
using Google APIs, or am I better off going with one of those paid
services?
