Thanks -- after posting I came to that conclusion myself. It might be worth revising the documentation to make it clearer that that having "responseHandler" in the request is an exceptional case; as they are now, the docs imply this is the normal case (at least to me). When things weren't working I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out why the request looked "broken", when I should have been looking elsewhere for the source of the problem.
But thanks for the info and the generally excellent docs. Well, the documentation is excellent, though the navigation and organization could be improved.
