I have it working in IE8 :) Are you sure that range is available? Also, I just noticed that you call the getVisibleChartRange first and then try to set the same range... why ?
Try it with new Date(2010, 11, 2) , new Date(2010, 12, 3) assuming you have any data available on that range...
