Unfortunately, I am not a programmer but I am so interested in building a scrip which will allow to visualize number of species in a geographic map. As you know country ISO is not the best way to demark a region for presence/absence data, so I think, placing a grid over, say South America or 10 km each square, will provide more accurate. Then, in a spread sheet, column one we can have number of species, and column two, a georeferenced point (coordinates) which will be contained in any of the several hundreds grids over the map.Then the colors will change depending on the frequency of the species. Grid size could be flexible depending on the scope of the data. If anybody out there is dealing or has dealt with something like this, PLEASE contact me...I will love to hear about how to do it!.
