I don't understand why formatters are associated with DataTables. Formatters just control how data is seen, they should be associated with a view element, such as a DataView or a Table. There are many instances where Formatters could be much more useful if they were associated with view elements, and many instances where code is awkward or has reduced functionality becuase of their association with DataTables.
This could be fixed by allowing them to be associated with DataViews or Tables, while still being capable of being associated with DataTables for backwards compatability. Such added functionality would be a huge help. Can someone in the know shed some light on this?
