The API is generally backwards compatible. This was an exception, and some might argue even this is not an exception because we broke undocumented behavior.
To your question, no, there's currently no way to fix on a certain version. And please, don't set 'strictFirstColumnType' option to false unless this if for a very limited amount of time.
