"transparent" is a valid color string (for all the chart elements I tried, 
anyway) - as long as you don't use IE < 9.  As I understand it, 
transparency is broken and/or wonky in VML, which is what IE < 9 uses 
instead of SVG, and the chart team couldn't find a work-around for it.
