Find a "loading" animation that you like (google "AJAX loading animation" for examples; this site<http://www.queness.com/post/9150/9-javascript-and-animated-gif-loading-animation-solutions>has a roundup of different options on the javascript end). When you have found a solution that you like, you just need to trigger the animation before starting the query and turn it off when the query returns.
