Unfortunately, in the current release, you cannot specify the number of
major gridlines on Date value axes.  You can specify the viewWindow min and
max values, which it appears to take as a rough guideline that affects
which gridlines will be generated.  You can also specify the number of
minor gridlines, but there are no labels associated with minor gridlines.

In the near future (a few weeks), you will be able to specify the explicit
tick values you want to use.  However, this means you will have to go
through the data yourself to figure out the set of tick values that will be
used.  This will be more challenging if you are using a chart range filter
on the date axes.  There will be more enhancements rolling out as soon as
we can make them stable, but this one is easy enough and gives you a lot
more control if you need it.
