The ComboCharts certainly do support the select event and the #getSelection 
method (see http://jsfiddle.net/asgallant/rrdhV/ as an example).  My guess 
is that you are using a ChartWrapper here, correct?  The ChartWrappers are 
one layer abstracted from the base chart, and not all events in the base 
chart bubble up to the ChartWrapper (the select event is one of them), so 
you have to register the select event on the base chart itself, like this:
