In theory, it is possible to write server-side scripts that read an excel 
sheet and serve up the data, but in practice the level of effort required 
to make it work never justifies the end result.  As an example, it is far 
easier to convert the spreadsheet into a database, train your users in how 
to use the database, and set up a script that queries the database for your 
charts than it is to write a script that parses excel files.
