The API is free to use in almost all circumstances, so you should be fine to use it in your thesis. Nothing in the Terms of Service requires you to cite the API, but your academic rules may require it. If the API was critical to the research, I would cite it, but I probably wouldn't if it were just used to present findings.
Note that the API only works in internet-connected browsers, so you can't publish charts from the API in things like PDFs or Word documents.
