For those who hate Flash, you can try out the AnnotatedTimeline Migration tool<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/google-visualization-api/asgallant$20migration$20tool/google-visualization-api/Y4ZmqWAjjPg/Uwr8eoWo6goJ>that I wrote. It's super-duper beta and very buggy, but it should give you an idea of what you can do with the charts without resorting to the crap that is Flash.
