We don't have any plans to deprecate displayMode: 'text' or make it go
away. It is possible that its behavior may change, and we reserve the right
to change it, so it is in "beta" in that sense, but we'll mostly be moving
forward, rather than back. The lack of documentation is simply due to this
having slipped through our fingers, and it's coming.
