The old playground is gone for good; it's not going to be fixed. The dev team is working on alternatives, but I would not expect something in the immediate future.
In the meantime, if you need a playground-like tool to work with, jsfiddle.net is a popular option (and there are others as well, you can read some pros and cons on the more popular ones here: http://mediaunmasked.com/reviews/software/codepen-jsfiddle-cssdeck-liveweave-jsbin-dabblet/).
