There is no maximum number of records for any of the charts. Only your users' browsers and the available memory are the limiting factors.
If you are seeing performance issues, generally disable features that look like they might take more time, e.g. animation and category selection. In addition to some general performance improvements, the new feature that will be available in the next release which can improve the user interaction experience for all of the corecharts is asynchronous drawing. For the AnnotationChart, this means that dragging the chart range filter control will be much more responsive, because the chart drawing for both the control and the main chart will be interrupted by each user interaction and delayed until there is time.
