I tried that and it worked!

import com.ibm.icu.util.GregorianCalendar;
import com.ibm.icu.util.TimeZone;
...

                GregorianCalendar cal = new GregorianCalendar();
                cal.setTime(new Date());
                cal.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT"));
                row.addCell(new DateValue(cal));


Note: The row.addCell does not work when using 
java.util.GregoricanCalendar. See import statements.
