How you change the axis ticks depends on a couple things.  It would help to
see your code, data, and resulting chart to tell for sure what you are
doing.

In most cases, the date axes want to lay out the dates automatically, but
you can try to specify in your options, e.g. gridlines: { count: 10 } for
10 gridlines.  You can also specify the tick values explicitly using the
ticks option.

You say you have a bar chart, but since you have dates on the horizontal
axis, I would guess you actually have a column chart.  This makes a
difference in some cases. If you are using the new Material charts, there
are not yet as many options for controlling the chart and axes.
