A later late on this issue but better late than ever! We've made a *drop-in-place* replacement for Google Image Charts 👍 and even added gif animations <https://image-charts.com/documentation#chart-gif-animation> on top of it 🚀(chart animations in emails are awesome!!).
It's called Image-charts ( https://image-charts.com ), no more server-side chart rendering pain, no scaling issues, it's blazing fast, 1 URL = 1 image chart. We build it and use it to generate our charts in emails and pdf!
