Sorry, Nick.  There is not enough flexibility in how the colors are
assigned to support what you want.

The easiest change for us might be to support the 'style' role, so you
could determine the colors you want yourself.  But it would really need to
be not just a single color but a color range for each 'node' to apply to
all of its children.
