This is the situation. I create a new wave. I add some participants and a robot to the wave. The robot adds a FormElement of ElementType.BUTTON to the wave. Any of the participants can click the button.
The unexpected display behavior only happens if I navigate to a different wave and another participant clicks the button. When I return to the wave there are 2 buttons, one highlighted in yellow, the other in pink with strikethrough text. If I leave the wave and return or add a blip then the display of the button returns to normal. I have played with the code, reset values, replaced the element etc. but the behavior remains the same.
