Hi, similar to the Map Cluster Gadget ( http://wave-samples-gallery.appspot.com/about_app?app_id=41005 - which I didn't know about until today), I recently accomplished my first wave-gadget-attempt, which should also show the position of wave participants on a map (actually it was part of an online coding contest by our local Google user group)
Unlike the gadget mentioned before, this one uses the v3 Maps API, can auto-locate users using Geolocation (either with Gears or the HTML5 standard) and adds an option to "blur" the user's position by some random distance (in case geo-location is too accurate for someone). Though it doesn't use marker clustering (yet).
