The original posts says a 3% improvement. I have found subsequent runs of the compiler to vary by larger than this amount, but let's assume this is the average improvement over many runs.
I still admit I don't like the idea of programming with explicit indices. It's not only verbose, but more error prone. Is there perhaps another way to get a similar speedup but still let us write the nice for loops?
