Somehow I missed this thread earlier on, but I'd like to jump in with a "me too."
The project I'm working on requires that all i18n strings be at the very least configurable by a business analyst, and many of them by administrative users. Requiring a compile/redeploy after each change is not an option in our case. Our solution has been to use a homegrown fetch/cache approach, but we would prefer to use something more standard. Thobias, if you create a Google Code project for this, I will start to use it immediately (and will gladly contribute anything I can to move it forward). As Chris said, maybe if there are enough of us out there with this requirement (and I think there are), then this could be something that gets moved into GWT proper.
