Hi Mark, A 'div' is a division of a document originally and it there are no words or pictures in it, it doesn't really exist. If you understand that, it makes sense to (effectively) cut out blank pages. But now we are not really using them as they were intended. That is why MS had the so-called 'broken box' model - if a div is like a page, then the total width would include margins and borders and padding, and if that had become the standard, then John Mudd wouldn't be having the trouble he is. But of course it was Microsoft and therefore automatically the wrong thing to do, even if it does make sense. So we are stuck with the situation where setting the width of something to 100% gives you scrollbars or clipped content or overflow. Still, if it were easier, it wouldn't pay so much - long live browser quirks!
