I've been taking a break from my main application, and worked on an alternative strategy integrating Polymer and GWT 2.8 with JSInterop, you can find the result here: https://github.com/christianbauer/todo-gwt-polymer
This code is very close to Polymer API and JavaScript, type-safety is therefore awful. A more powerful @JsFunction would be needed to scale this to more code. However there is no @JsExport in the code and with a few "minor" improvements, Polymer could be a great View language for GWT.
