Like Peter and Jens said, put a loading indicator in your host html page,
and remove it in onModuleLoad.
For example. Put in your html :
<div id="splash">
<div align="center">
<img style="padding-top: 50px" src="img/ajax-loader-64.gif">
<h3>Launching application<BR/>Please wait....</h3>
</div>
</div>
And then in your onModuleLoad
RootPanel.getBodyElement().removeChild(DOM.getElementById("splash"));
