if u´re installed jdk (6 for example), then you will find a collection of applet demos on your harddrive. even if your not writing rich client apps, a couple of object/function are usable in a applet to. so don´t get to engaged with that, as u see - the most here prefer to stay inside the browser ;) with the u_11 there were a java pre-loader that will speed up the boot time of java apps, as the browser engine does, during the initialization ;)
