if u´re installed jdk (6 for example), then you will find a collection
of applet demos on your harddrive. even if your not writing rich
client apps, a couple of object/function are usable in a applet to. so
don´t get to engaged with that, as u see - the most here prefer to
stay inside the browser ;) with the u_11 there were a java pre-loader
that will speed up the boot time of java apps, as the browser engine
does, during the initialization ;)

there are always pro and cons, i agree with a hybrid application (for
instance, visualize some molecules in 3d with a japplet) inside of
html / javascript. the iphone and stuff like that is for the wannabees
<- lets say so. the lifetime of such a device is quite short ;)
