Hello, I noticed that Google Web Toolkit bundles two pieces of software that are under the LGPL, JFreeChart and WebKit. As a result, I was concerned about using web application framework that includes GWT, Vaadin, and posted my concerns on the Vaadin forums:
http://vaadin.com/forum/-/message_boards/message/36178 The CEO essentially said that the two LGPL'd packages were optional in GWT. I was if anyone with better knowledge of the GWT implementation could tell me if this is the case. Is JFreeChart just co-distributed for convenience, or are there GWT classes that depend on it? If these packages are LGPL'd, what obligations does that put on me as far as source release? From looking at this forum and others, the answer lies somewhere between "nothing" and "release all source". The Apache license under which GWT is licensed seems to not contain any source release clause, but if LGPL requires it, it seems like GWT's license would not be legal. If I am confused about the issue, is it commonly accepted as safe to not release application source with potentially LGPL'd code until/ unless someone asks for it? It wouldn't be the end of the world for me to release the source, as the planned project is more personal/ hobby than commercial at the moment, but I am worried that someone could take my code and claim that they, rather than I, are the original author. Have criminal suits been brought against people for GPL violations without giving them a chance to rectify the situation by releasing source after the alleged violation? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Web Toolkit" group.
