That is certain another good idea but it may take some time to design, develop
and get off the ground. In these fast moving times it can be advantage to have
something instantly available. I agree it should not be just be a blog. They do
have their place and as you pointed out it can be about building a website.
Within a larger niche community context blogs can form 'part' of the larger
picture. You mention Open Social. The site that I put together below is build
with a social networking package. In a few weeks a beta upgrade will be
available that includes Open Social. Making it all about Google certainly is
one direction; after all we are developing using its software. You can also
take another direction and say, look how easy it is to integrate GWT with third
party products. The writers of the CMS package I mentioned below actively
encourage independent developers to modify its open source package and there is
a thriving community around it.
The link I gave earlier is incorrect. I have a tendency to swap letters
around. It should have been http://moneysoft.eu/gwt . Sorry about that.

No - no easy way outs.  Lets do it right. - Open Source - Posted to Ap
Engine.  It is the GWT jobs site.  Lets make those who are seeking a
job in GWT at least build their means of connection and advertising.
We can try to incorporate Open Social / Google Profiles / LinkedIn /
etc.  This type of example project will help the community with Coding
and with finding a Job.

The Blog should just be about building the website.
