An update:

Unistalled everything that I could identify as being Java. Deleted any
leftover files. Deleted Eclipse.

Reinstalled first Java (update 13), added the bin\ folder to the PATH
and "installed" a clean copy of Eclipse Ganymede.

The result: it's all the same as before.

I'm clueless as to what to do next...
