I tend to agree. However, since it sounded like joshb already had a mountain of code, I was looking for the closest exit. :-)
If you (joshb) do in fact have more code than you want to refactor ... MyObjectX flying all over the place ... you might consider the "bag of properties" pattern (or anti-pattern depending) retrofit.
