Thanks elpix1 and David for your replies. David, I will check out Winstone. It seems like a really cool program. It seems like it could work for me, since I wouldn't have to disrupt my existing setup. Discoveries like this make me really glad that I posted this question to the group :) elpix1, your comment made me aware of some of the issues I need to watch out for. I suspected that a framework might not really be necessary since Java provides most functionality inherently. With Python for instance, django makes communication with databases so easy that its hard to resist using a framework such as it. But I guess Java's JDO mechanism does similar things. Thanks a lot.
