I'm having a similar problem and trying to debug it currently. So far,
it seems that the AppEngine jars also have the Mail API built into
them and it's conflicting with the jars on the server. So, I haven't
had a chance to test it yet, but my plan is to take out teh AppEngine
jars (I don't use AppEngine) and put in just the regular mail.jar
which should be on the Tomcat server I use, and hopefully that will
work.

If I get any success, I will let you know.
