IMO these are 2 separate things.
Spring is MVC on server side and GXT is on client side.

A path be to use Spring for providing model(M) from server side. Spring gives a 
lot dependency injection, lifecycle, transactions, db mapping etc.
Use GXT on client side to do control and rendering(VC).
