Perhaps the Java Build Path is not correct.

You can use the Google Eclipse Plugin (GEP) to configure the build path.

You don't mention which version of GWT you're using.
Right-click on the project name, select "Build Path", select "Configure
Build Path, select the "Libraries" tab. You should see the GWT libraries.
