Unfortunately RequestBuilder will not solve SOP issues. My example solution is based on Google App Engine Java platform and for cross site request I use server side code (i.e. UrlFetch service) as proxy for my GWT Client side code (the blog post doesn't have that example). I also used <script> tag injection before on another project. It would have been nice to have Cross site capability built into GWT client.
