It might be a bug yes (either in GWT or in Flute, the CSS parser it
uses). Try this as a workaround:
background-image:: literal("-webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left
bottom, from(rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.25)), to(rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)))");
