Hi Mike, I was considering using Flash to build my site (http:// www.yournextpresent.com), but i'm really glad I chose GWT in the end! I was able to get all the animations I required working using the GWTFX library (http://code.google.com/p/gwt-fx/) and even got google crawling my site using the 'Making GWT crawlable' documentation which has already been linked to.
I have a PHP/MySQL backend and have had no problems communicating with GWT via REST.
