Use a DeferredCommand or a ScheduledCommand (GWT2.1)

TextBox textBox=new TextBox();
Scheduler.get().scheduleDeferred(new ScheduledCommand() {
            @Override
            public void execute() {
                textBox.setFocus(true);
            }
        });
