FYI, RequestContext#isChanged in Requestfactory is implemented using AutoBeanUtils.diff() on the "frozen" version and the "edited" version of the object (see code in com.google.gwt.requestfactory.shared.impl.AbstractRequestContext). I haven't checked, but I think messages are constructed using a similar mechanism.
