In a "standard" rutime environment, yes, but not on App Engine. Maybe yo don't need to run in the AppEngine sandbox, so you can disable AppEngine in your projects' properties (IIRC, you'll probably have to delete a bunch a JARs from your war/WEB-INF/lib after the change)
