Thanks for the tips. I don't know why I could not have the .js file hosted on the google site... as long as it is reachable by a URL it can be referenced in the <script> tag (as in my original post).
I do understand that my GWT app will not be able to call back to the server to do anything; that would require scripting/servlet support on the server which google does not provide.
