Just wondering: you're creating a desktop app, with no web equivalent, and
deploying a database et at. with it, right? And you're wondering how to
support Windows, Linux, OSX, etc.?

Why don't you simply develop a Java heavy-client app? with Swing or similar
toolkit?

Otherwise, yes, you could develop an Adobe AIR or PhoneGap app and make use
of the internal SQL DB (rather than an external, yet local, MySQL server).

Or am I misunderstanding what you mean by "desktop app" and "platform
independent" ?
