Debugging GWT applications in IDE is one of the most important feature of GWT from the earliest version of it. I agree with Chris that it is ok if Dev Mode doesn't always support the latest version of each browser or even dropping support for most browsers (for example only support Firefox or Chrome). But i believe that replacing super dev mode with dev mode reduce productivity.
