Hi Thomas,

thank you for the detailed response, and sorry for the delay.

I am ready to do what you recommended, learn the maven life cycle and all
that...

But first of all, I need to decide which maven installation to use.
Unfortunately, I see several different sources:

   - Download from the Apache Web Site
   - Install from the Debian repository

In addition there seem to be several eclipse plugins:

   - m2e
   - m2eclipse (!= m2e?)
   - m-e-p (Maven Eclipse Plugin)
   - ...

In general, I prefer to use the Debian repository. But in the case of
eclipse and tomcat I prefer the standalone installation within a single
directory.
Ok, that's the first decision.

However, how does this relate to the eclipse maven "plugin"? Does the
plugin replace a maven installation? Or does it simply allow an invocation
of maven (mvn)?
Do I need both a maven installation and an eclipse plugin?

Finally, which eclipse plugin is recommended?

Thanks
Magnus
