There's a reason Activity#start takes an AcceptsOneWidget as argument rather than having to return an IsWidget: it can be asynchronous (and that's also why we have onCancel and onStop). So you can make your RPC in onStart and only call the AcceptsOneWidget#setWidget once you've populated the combo with the results.
